Hello everyone and welcome to the first lesson of Pyongseng Korean,

In today's lesson we will be looking at what it will be like to arrive at Incheon International Airport for the first time.

Before we get started let's look at the lesson title above. What does it mean?

Well let's interpret it so you can understand the title and the theme of the lesson.

출입국심사 - Meaning a inspection that is taken by the immigration of Korea.

Now that you understand the title, let's go straight on to the lesson.

Picture yourself just stepping off the plane in Incheon Airport for the first time, you are either doing business or coming over to study for a year abroad, or even visiting your Korean girlfriend or boyfriend.

You are now walking towards the customs deceleration with your passport in your hand and your landing card in the other.

The person behind the glass window is Korean (obviously), and starts to look at your passport and documents that you have brought with you to Korea.

The person then says:

방문 목적은 무엇입니까? (Bang-moon MogJok-eun Moo-uh shimnikka)

You are puzzled with a confusing expression. The person then repeats slowly once gain but still in Korean.

방.문. 목.적.은.무.엇.입.니.까?

But you still do not understand, So how will you know how to reply?

It's easy! I will teach you in today's lesson

Let's take a look at the first expression

방문 목적은 무엇입니까? (Bang-moon MogJok-eun Moo-uh shimnikka)

방문 (Bangmoon) - This is a noun that came from the verb 방문하다 (Bang-moon hada) which means 'to visit'.

목적 - Is a type of goal that you are wanting to acheive.

무엇입니까 - is the verb to ask a question.

방문 목적은 무엇입니까? (Bang-moon MogJok-eun Moo-uh shimnikka) : What is the purpose of your visit.

You can reply by saying this.

____/ Verb러 왔습니다 (___Waseuminda) = I came to _____

쇼핑하다 (Shyo-ping hada) To shop

쇼핑하다 + 왔습니다 = 쇼핑하러 왔습니다. - I came to do shopping.

관광하다 (Gwan-gwang hada) To sightsee

관광하다 + 왔습니다 = 관광하러 왔습니다 (Gwangwang haruh waseuminda) - I came to sight see.

The person may respond back by saying.

한국에는 처음 오셨습니까? (Hangook-ehneun Cho-eum Ohshyo-seumnikka?)

Is this your first time visiting Korea?

Your reply either.

네, 처음입니다. (Ne, Choeum-imnida) - Yes it is my first time or

아닙니다, 이번이 _번째입니다. (ah-nimnida, i-boni _bunjeh-imnida) - No this is my __ time.

두번째 (doo-bunjjae) - Second

세번째 (Seh-bunjjae) - Third

The immigration officer may ask you the following questions

어디 머무르실 건가요? (Eodi meomureusil geongayo?)

Where are you planning to stay?

Your response:

[The place you are staying] 에 묵을 거예요. ( [the place you are staying]e mugeul geoyeyo.)

친구집 (Chingoo Jib) - Friends house

호텔 (Ho-tel) - Hotel
